On 11th July, the Chief Justice of India Mr. D.Y Chandrachud welcomed Brazilian Judge Antonio Herman Benjamin to his bench and called him a great friend of India.
Justice Benjamin is on a trip to India ahead of his taking over as the Brazilian Supreme Court Chief Justice in July. He shared space with two other SC judges and the CJI as he keenly watched court proceedings.
“We are pleased to have him here… He is soon going to assume office on July 22nd as the Chief Justice (of SC in Brazil).” The CJI introduced him to lawyers and litigants present in court.
The CJ described Justice Benjamin as a recognized scholar who has made substantial interventions in environmental conservation.
While in this country, he toured Jammu and Kashmir
He also established Brazilian Consumer Law and Policy Institute alongside Law for Green Planet Institute.
