On July 4, there were two female graduate students’ bodies retrieved from the Padiyur Poovam river, which is a part of Pazhassi water body in Kannur of Kerala.
Edayannur’s Shaharban and Nalampeedika Chakkarakal’s Surya who was her classmate are the ones who are dead. They were carried away by strong currents around 4 pm on July 2nd. It was said that they had gone to a friend’s home at Poovam before the incident occurred.
The accident happened as the pupils came to bathe in the river in Iritty-Poovam area. Immediately after this, search operations started involving local residents, police officers and firefighters called by fire service department. A team composed of thirty members from National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) rushed to the place for assisting in searching.
There was no result despite Irity, Peravoor, Thalassery, Koothuparamba, Kannur, Payyannur and Mattannur Fire Rescue Stations’ scuba teams efforts on 2nd July and 3rd July until Shaharban’s body was found on July 4th at Pazhassi Dam.
