After Ms. Choudhry was elected unopposed to the Rajya Sabha from Haryana, BJP’s Kiran Choudhry, Haryana CM Nayab Singh Saini and others.
BJP’s Kiran Choudhry emerged as the unopposed winner in the byelection of Rajya Sabha from Haryana State after the time for withdrawal of nominations passed on order at 3.00 p.m. on Tuesday 27th August 2024.
Former Haryana Minister Ms. Choudhry had also submitted her nomination papers for the by election on August 21, 2024. As the only other person nominated against her had withdrawn, the election was uncontested.
Winner’s certificate was handed over at 4.33 p.m. to the Returning Officer for the bypoll at Haryana Vidhan Sabha secretariat by Saket Kumar. Even today, the present Chief Minister Naiab Singh Saini was also present on the occasion.

No other party has fielded a candidate for the by-election for the other vacant Rajya Sabha seat from Haryana which became vacant after the election of Congress’s Deepender Singh Hooda to Lok Sabha triggering bi-election. Deepender Singh Hooda has been a member of Rajya Sabha since April 9, 2016 and is due to complete his term on April 09, 2026.
The BJP had named Ms.Choudhry (69) as its candidate for the bye election soon after she quit the assembly one week back after two months of joining the BJP from congress (06 March 2024). Choudry and her daughter, former MP Shruti Choudhry joined the BJP in June.
Kiran Choudhry was the MLA from the Tosham seat of Haryana Assembly.
Haryana MLAs Bhupinder Singh Hooda earlier said that his party would not contest the Rajya Sabha with a nominee as there were no supporters.

In 230 total State Assembly the BJP has 163 MLAs and Congress 64 and Bharat Adivasi Party (BAP) one. Two positions are unoccupied.
