Abhishek Banerjee, senior Trinamool Congress leader hailed the Lok Sabha elections as that of “protest, resistance and revenge” while stating that the Lok Sabha election results have “crushed BJP’s arrogance and pride into dust”.
In addition to this, he accused BJP of “abusing Central agencies, corrupting the judiciary, gagging the media and manipulating the Election Commission to cling to power”.
Late on June 14 in a Facebook post after meeting party workers and common people in his Diamond Harbour constituency from where he was re-elected by a record margin of more than 7 lakh votes, TMC national general secretary mentioned that 2024 Lok Sabha polls will be etched in golden letters in history as ‘jonogoner gorjon’ (people’s roar).
‘The ‘jonogoner gorjon’ (people’s roar) will be etched in golden letters in the history. This Lok Sabha election was one of ‘protibaad, protirodh and protishodh’ (protest, resistance and revenge). The BJP’s arrogance has been crushed into dust,’ he said.
However, despite returning to power for a third consecutive term through NDA led by BJP but failed to secure majority on its ownand thus had to rely on key allies Telugu Desam Party and JD(U) for continuance in power.
Mr. Banerjee, who is widely considered as number two man in TMC called Bengal and country witnessing a new dawn on June 4 (when LS poll results were announced), following the TMC’s performance in West Bengal where it bagged 29 out of 42 seats thereby improving its tally by seven seats compared with previous year’s figures. He thanked Diamond Harbour for an overwhelming mandate.
“You support means so much to me; you are prayerful threads which have woven around me into bonds of love. And I shall render you back my debt with a snowball effect of development,” he said.
Moreover, he accused BJP of taking away from people their democratic rights. Mr. Banerjee who has been questioned by central agencies in connection with alleged coal and cattle scams several times earlier lashed out at the Narendra Modi government for “abusing Central agencies”.
“Heartiest greetings and congratulations to the people of the country, the people of Bengal, and above all, my colleagues and co-workers in the Trinamool Congress. You are the backbone of this victory. Joy Bangla!” Mr. Banerjee said.
