Kaladhar Prasad Mandal from JD(U) managed to take the lead with 2,433 votes over his nearest opponent – the independent candidate in the by-election at Rupauli Assembly of Bihar’s Purnea district on July 13, as per Election commission of India (ECI).
The first round counting shows that JD(U) candidate secured 6,588 votes followed by Independents’ Shankar Singh who has received 4,155 votes at the moment.
After the end of initial voting process, Bima Bharti of Rashtriya Janata Dal landed third with just having accumulated 2,359 votes. The counting began at eight o’clock in the morning.
The byelection was necessitated by the resignation of sitting MLA Bima Bharti, who had won the seat several times for JD(U), but quit it a few months ago to contest Parliamentary election as an RJD candidate. After losing her seat in Lok Sabha polls she contested this bypoll on behalf of RJD.
