On Friday, President Joe Biden unequivocally criticized a journalist pertaining to the question of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s warning regarding Ukraine. According to the NY Post, while having a meeting with the UK Prime Minister, Biden got angry when one of the British journalists inquired about ‘Putin’s comment to the British journalists that the escalation of the conflict into a direct war would occur if Ukraine’s restrictions regarding long range missiles were abolished.”
“You seem very excited. Calm down. Can I say? Nobody speaks. Be quite until I speak okay. Everybody knows what I say and it is good idea, ain’t it?’” Bide did not hold back and let out his ire. The reporter, however, remained persistent, making a point to ask Biden about Putin’s threat further.
Biden was impatient when he said, “Well, you have to bring it down.” You know what, I am going to say something here, all right?”
It was at this point that the apparent cause of the melee was the journalist’s naivety that did not allow him to wait through the presidential statements before asking questions. When they settled in at the reporter’s table after the first comments of Biden and Starmer, again a question was posed and again Biden waved it dismissively and added: I am not thinking much about Vladimir Putin very well.
The event comes of course when there has been a lot of trouble over Ukraine and what the United States plans to do about it. There was a new twist however, on the warming US stance towards Ukraine as Biden said that he was thinking of providing loosening up the conditions on how this country can use weapons supplied by the US. This has drawn severe threats from Putin. Russian President Vladimir Putin pole carried with him the reversing belligerence of the Americans ‘having to face greater implication should such a policy be instituted’ Russia over the nations of NATO including America, and Europe.
Putin even pointed out that, “this is going to mean that the US and the European nations that are part of NATO stand in warfare against Russia.” Also, he alluded to what measures can be taken in response to new threats to the country.
The Russia-Ukraine war is now entering a third year, and concerns over nuclear conflict do not go away. The president of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, has started to take drastic steps against Russian troops including an unheralded offensive onto Russian territory on August 6. This has stalled any peace talks and has altered the US political situation ahead of November’s elections.
Former President Donald Trump has promised that if elected he will quickly resolve rather the Russian aggression – resolve which entails making Ukraine give up its territories currently occupied by Russia from the south and east of the country.
