Bhumi Pednekar is an actor and environmental activist who has been actively involved in sensitizing the public about environmental conservation; she has now taken a further step by initiating the Bhamla Foundation’s ‘Bhoomi Namaskar’ campaign for World Environment Day. The Bhamla Foundation which is supported by United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change(MoEFCC) and Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation(BMC) started this campaign advocating on the importance of ecosystem restoration as a response to climate change and its negative ramifications, it will be effected with UN resolution of the year ‘Generation Restoration’.
Bhumi Pednekar launches new campaign Bhoomi Namaskar in association with Bhamla Foundation
As an environment warrior, Bhumi Pednekar has been instrumental in various environmental initiatives. Through her non-profit advocacy platform Climate Warrior and The Bhumi Foundation, Bhumi has championed several causes including but not limited to waste segregation, rainwater harvesting, recycling, upcycling, conscious fashion choices among others. Last year on World Environment Day she planted thousands of trees along the outskirts of Mumbai urging people to plant more.
Bhumi talked about being a part of it during her launching speech at Bhoomi Namaskar campaign this year by saying “I am humbled to have joined hands with Bhamla foundation this year for their ‘Bhoomi Namaskar’ campaign for World Environment Day. What they have achieved over the years as a foundation is very motivating- their partnership with UNEP –the United Nations Environmental Programmes,- that one together with MOEFCaC- Minister OF ENVIRONMENT FORESTAND CLIMATE CHANGE as well as BMC-Brihanmumbai municipal corporation – does energize me towards my green passion.”
“As we speak our world is facing tough times ,and therefore time has come when everybody must act together. This is the only planet that we call our home; there are no other planets out there, hence the idea method that encouraged me many years ago to take the path of empathy, care and love for my mother earth and environment. Moreover, we must recognise that every step we take will affect our climate, so as we anticipate this World Environment Day I plead with everyone to try to live a sustainable life style of reduced consumption of resources while showing empathy towards fellow humans and other living things on earth.”
Recently named as one of the Young Global Leaders by World Economic Forum class of 2024 for her work in climate change through her NGOs also for her big sustainable entrepreneurship ventures , Bhumi Pednekar has been recognized. She is also UNDP India’s first Indian Goodwill Ambassador for SDGs.
