Bernie Sanders, also the US President, outlined a number of conditions for endorsing Joe Biden in the forthcoming November elections amid calls for him to step out of the presidential race.
He stated that there should be policies that put the welfare of working families first and not just about appealing to wealthy campaign contributors. “The American people are looking for a change. It will be either Trump’s kind of change or a change that benefits ordinary families,” he stressed.
Within the Democratic Party, Sanders has a major following among young people and working-class Americans; therefore, he is an influential figure. He insisted that victory can still be won by Biden and Democrats if they listen to his concerns as regards employees’ matters.
This statement from the senator comes at a time when Biden’s campaign is in crisis after his poor performance during the June 27 debate against his Republican opponent Donald Trump.
Some specific measures which he feels are important for Biden’s campaign were also highlighted by Senator Sanders. These are eliminating corporate greed and income inequality, raising minimum wage, providing Medicare cover, ending child poverty through permanent child tax credit reducing childhood poverty via permanent child tax credit; making sure rich people pay their fair share towards Social Security; canceling medical debt; and constructing cheap homes for those with low incomes.
It should be noted that during the last Presidential election which was held in 2020 Sanders had signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Biden’s team. Subsequently, this agreement led to active campaigning by Sanders on behalf of Vice President Joe Biden resulting in his victory in November 2020.
Appearing on CBS’s “Face The Nation,” Bernie discussed whether age affects Joe Biden’s ability/policies aimed at helping most Americans
Examples include: a commitment to take on corporate America as well as expanding Medicare; raising Social Security payments; enacting a full-time children’s tax credit; protecting seniors while supporting youth, laborers, and people living below the poverty line.
