The police also released sketches and descriptions of six terrorists, two of whom are thought to be brothers, and announced a cash reward (Rs 500,000 to Rs 10 lakh) for information about them. They included details of their age which ranged between 20-42 years inclusive as well as arms with which they were armed; AK assault rifles, US-made M4 carbines and pistols.
Udhampur SSP Joginder Singh told a press conference that the ground worker was named Javed from Loha Nathi in Kathua district (Javed), who helped terrorists infiltrate from the border into Basantgarh. He added that these sketches were prepared after inputs from various agencies.
“So far he is the first one who has been arrested His questioning in relation to the case is still at preliminary stage Further investigation is going on,” said SSP Singh adding that police department has got some credible information about movements of suspects and also zeroed in on some “criminal elements”.
A massive joint search operation has been launched by army, police and paramilitary forces in this area to sanitise it for any possible terrorists who may have successfully exfiltrated across the border into Udhampur from nearby Kathua district.
