Minnesota Governor Tim Walz has received the endorsement of former US President Barack Obama, who argued that Walz’s belief in a government for everyone rather than a few elites would make him an even better vice-president.
Obama praised Walz and congratulated him, his wife Gwen, their family and the nation.
‘Tim_Walz Government serves us. It does not only serve some people but it serves all people. This is what makes him such a good governor and will surely make him an excellent vice president too. Michelle and I are very happy for Tim, Gwen, their kids and our country,’ Barack Obama posted on X on Tuesday.
Barack and Michelle Obama released a statement last week after Kamala Harris chose Walz as her running mate in the forthcoming American elections. The statement maintained that choosing a running mate was revealing of a presidential candidate’s character as well as the type of president they would be.
‘Picking a running mate says so much about who candidates are as individuals and what kind of Commander-In-Chief they’ll be. Will they pick someone untested and divisive who widens our divide? Or will they select somebody with an instinct to make hard choices, someone who believes every voice matters, every person deserves an equal opportunity?’ it stated.
‘When Kamala Harris chose Tim Walz from among many excellent Democrats to be her running mate she picked the perfect partner –-and made clear what she stands for,’ it said.
According to Obama, Walz’s knowledgeability and skills have made him highly suitable for being chosen into this position. In particular, the statement highlighted Governor Walz’ efforts during Covid-19 recovery to support families and businesses recover from COVID-19 pandemic; provide paid family leave; ensure access to safe abortion services; enact common-sense gun safety measures in order to promote community security.
“Governor Walz isn’t just experienced enough to be vice president; he has the kind of heart and soul that make us proud. While in office, Tim helped with a family’s and business’s recovery from COVID-19 pandemic, established paid family leave, protected abortion rights, and promoted common sense gun control measures for safer communities,” it read.
However, “Tim’s calling card is his ability to talk to people like he means it and treat everybody right – which is not too surprising considering he spent 24 years serving in the National Guard before being elected to Congress following a career as a high school social studies teacher and football coach.”
