India-Bangladesh border checkpost at Fulbari near Siliguri, Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2024 is where A Border Security Force (BSF) personnel stands guard. Following political developments in Bangladesh, the government put the 4096 km border on high alert.
According to officials, night curfew was imposed on Pherzawl and parts of Jiribam district by Manipur Government on August 6, 2024.
“Regulations will be slackened between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. in Pherzawl district. Within Jiribam Municipality and Borobekra subdivision areas of Jiribam town restrictions were imposed while they would be lifted from nine o’clock in the morning up to three o’clock pm” said one of the officials.
The two District Magistrates issued separate orders prohibiting “… assembly of five or more persons which is likely to turn unlawful and the movement of any persons outside their respective residences”; as well as “carrying objects which can be used as offensive weapons”.
Jiribam and Pherzawl districts are contiguous with Cachar district that borders Bangladesh across Assam “Strictly impose curfew and ensure maintenance of law & order” stated the directives.
However, according to these instructions, there should be no such restrictions on ESSENTIAL SERVICES and GOVERNMENT AGENCIES
