Narendra Modi, the Prime Minister of India, was received by Austrian artists performing on his arrival in Vienna on July 9, 2024.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived at his hotel in Vienna on July 10 (local time) where he had a two-day visit to Russia; here, Austrian artists sang ‘Vande Mataram’ to welcome him.

An Indian Prime Minister had not visited Austria for 41 years. The last PM to visit Austria was Indira Gandhi in 1983. Austrian Foreign Minister, Alexander Schallenberg welcomed Mr. Modi.
PM Modi wrote in a X post when he arrived in Vienna, “Landed in Vienna. This visit to Austria is a special one. Our countries share core values and are committe to making the earth a better place for all of us. I am excited about several programmes lined up for Austria including my meetings with Chancellor @karlnehammer, engagements with our Indian community etc.”
Vande Mataram was perform before PM Modi by the choir and orchestra which Vijay Upadhyay from Lucknow Uttar Pradesh leads them. “We decided to perform Vande Mataram in Austria-European Symphony style,” said he adding that there were fifty members who sang as part of the choir and played musical instruments as an orchestra for PM Modi.
After addressing the Indian diaspora and the orchestra members, PM Modi joined a dinner hosted by Karl Nehammer.

In a post on X, Mr. Nehammar stated, “Welcome to Vienna, PM @narendramodi! It’s our pleasure and honor to welcome you here in Austria. We have excellent relations with India both as friends and partners. I am also excited about your upcoming political visit or economic discussions.”
Mr.Nehammer warmly welcomed PM modi thanked him for this, telling him how much he was eagerly waiting to hold talks finally.
In his X post MP Modiji mentioned/pronounced ,”Thank you once again Chancellor @karlnehammer sirfor such warm welcome. I look forward also my tomorrow deliberations… We will carry on working together.”
