The Maratahalli police on Saturday (December 14, 2024) arrested three people — wife, her mother and brother — for allegedly abetting the death of 34-year-old Atul Subhash, who was found dead at his residence in Munekolala in Bengaluru on December 9.

The accused, Nikita Singhania, wife of Atul, her mother Nisha Singhania and brother Anurag Singhania, are the arrested. The fourth accused in the case is yet to be arrested and efforts are on to secure him, the police said.

According to the police, Nikita was arrested from Gurugram in Haryana, the two others were arrested from Uttar Pradesh’s Prayagraj. A team of police had gone there to secure their arrest and issued notices. But the accused had managed to escape and had also applied for anticipatory bail.

“The accused have been brought to Bengaluru and sent to judicial custody after being produced before a local court,” said a police source.

Case background

In a 40-page note and a video, Subhash, who was heading AI division in Mahindra and Mahindra tech company, made a series of allegations, including harassment, by his wife and her family before hanging himself.

The issue had snowballed into a controversy, as many organisations raised concern over what they called “misuse of laws” related to dowry harassment and domestic violence.
