On Friday, in northwest Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, two police officers were killed and two others were injured when terrorists ambushed their convoy while they were providing security for judges.
During the shootout, all three judges remained safe after the attack on their convoy as they were heading to their homes from Tank district courts to Dera Ismail Khan.
The police department had made sure that the convoy was heavily guarded but it was still attacked by militants armed with guns. A police official stated, “Two policemen died in the course of protecting judges in the convoy against a deadly armed attack launched against them by the militants. Two others suffered injuries.”
There is an ongoing ambush as there are still clashes between cops and militants along Tank-DI Khan road. In response, Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur has condemned what happened to these judges’ vehicles and asked for a full report. He expressed his condolences for the death of two policemen and stressed that more security should be provided to judicial officers.
This event adds to a series of continuing acts of terrorism in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. The country recorded 1514 terror attacks during 2023 resulting in 2922 victims according to Pakistan’s internal ministry report. The document states that during these attacks, 572 military personnel died while another 1292 got wounded.
Also covered is January to April 2024 period in the same survey. In these months alone there were 561 acts of terrorism which resulted in demise of 167 security operatives and another 118 civilians.
