For Gujarat, the IMD issued a ‘red alert’ for several districts including Junagadh and Surat till 2nd July, 2024 due to extremely heavy rainfall.
Officials said that roads going to around 30 villages were submerged in water following heavy rains in Vanthali of Junagadh district of Gujarat resulting into cutoff of those villages within the last twenty four hours ending on morning of July 2.
According to them, more than two hundred millimeters rainfall was received in ten talukas across Saurashtra and south region of the state leading to water logging in low lying areas.
The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) said it sent one team to Keshod, Junagadh district to help people who were stranded after roads got disrupted.
“There have been about 30 villages in Junagadh district which are cut off due to submergence of road connections following heavy inflow from rains,” said a senior official.
Other talukas affected in the district include Keshod, Manavadar and Vanthali added official sources.
Data released by State Emergency Operations Centre (SEOC) shows that there has been an amount of three hundred and sixty one millimeters rain in Vanthali taluka up until six am. The second highest is Visavadar with three hundred and thirty six millimeters while Junagadh taluka comes third with two hundred and ninety seven mm followed by Jungad city and Keshod with two hundred and ninety seven mm each recorded for twenty four hours ending at 6 a.m. On this day, there was also a total downpour of two thousand four millimeters
In addition during the past twenty four hours, Bardoli taluka (Surat) observed very heavy rainfall (239mm), Khambhalia taluka (Devbhumi Dwarka) observed very heavy rainfall (229mm), Manavadar (Junagadh) received 224mm of rain, Navsari taluka (Navsari district) witnessed heavy rainfall (214mm), and Kalyanpur taluka (Devbhumi Dwarka) recorded heavy rainfall (200mm).
24 hours saw over 200 mm falling in ten talukas from Saurashtra and south Gujarat regions.
For the last three days some parts of the State have been receiving good amount of rainfall.
The NDRF also stated that due to water logging caused by the recent heavy rains, it has deployed ten teams in different locations within Saurashtra, Kutch and south Gujarat.
It is worth noting that India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Monday issued an ‘red alert’ for many districts including Junagadh and Surat till Tuesday morning predicting very heavy rainfall for these localities.
As per latest forecast, there will be a considerable downpour in various parts of Gujarat tomorrow as well as the day after.
“Very heavy rains” may be experienced at isolated places over south Gujarat and Saurashtra while several areas in north Gujarat, central Gujarat and Saurashtra would experience “heavy” rain on July 3.
On July 3rd there will be very heavy rainfall in Surat, Navsari, Valsad districts as well as Daman & Diu with Dadra Nagar Haveli. Cyclonic circulation existing both at North and South Gujarat is causing wet spell all over the state IMD said in its release.
