Cyclone ‘Remal’, however, causes heavy rainfall and makes the road in Nagaon to floods forcing villagers to walk through it.
On June 2, an official bulletin revealed that the Assam floods situation remained grim with three more fatalities, new areas inundated although there was a marginal decrease in the number of affected people.
It also noted that shelter camps had been set up in different locations as rivers still remained flooded.
The Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) bulletin showed that 5,35,246 people from 13 districts had been affected by the floods so far.
On Saturday, there were approximately 6 lakh affected people distributed across ten districts.
This has increased the storm’s as well as floods death tolls to eighteen since May 28; two are reported to have occurred in Cachar while one happened in Nagaon district
The ASDMA bulletin indicated that its water levels were still high above danger limit for Kopili River , Barak and Kushiyara i.e. they continued to flow above danger levels,.
District-wise data reveals that Nagaon remains most hit as a total of 3,03,567 persons stayed adversely affected followed by Cachar district (1,09,798) and Hojai subdivision (86,382).
These include about thirty-nine thousand victims being accommodated at one hundred ninety-three relief camps situated within various districts. Again eighty-two distribution centres are available.
Also other organizations such as SDRF, NDRF among others have mobilized rescue and relief efforts with deployment of medical teams in disaster areas where multi agencies including local administration alongside NDRF along with SDRF carried out search and rescue exercises.
Different districts have reported instances of infrastructure loss which entails damage to roads ,bridges or property.
