An official bulletin said that on July 6, Assam’s flood situation remained critical with over 24.50 lakh people reeling under the deluge in 30 districts and major rivers flowing above the danger mark at several places.
The toll in this year’s flood was 52 and 12 others lost their lives due to landslides and storms.
After returning from Dibrugarh district, we held a meeting after which Himanta Biswa Sarma reviewed the present flood situation in Assam.

“On visiting flooded regions of Dibrugarh, we took time off to consider some options,” noted the Chief Minister while discussing about Assam Arogya Nidhi-a health financial assistance scheme.”
He also emphasized he had particularly instructed officials to ‘‘prioritise rarest of rare cases and applications from those who are not covered under any existing scheme’‘.
According to him, after talking with the affected families by floods he sent messages to them assuring them that their issues will be address by relevant officials.
“We believe in proactive governance for effective public service.” He said.
On July 6th rain caused flooding on streets forcing rickshaw pullers to wade through it.
“The Jal Jeevan Mission” scheme has emerged as a ‘‘silver lining in these tough times’‘ despite considerable destructions across the state caused by flooding”, observed him when asked about clean drinking water supply.
“The transformative water supply project is providing clean drinking water during these tough times,” he added.
Among the districts affected by floods there are Cachar, Kamrup, Hailakandi, Hojai, Dhubri, Nagaon, Morigaon Goalpara Barpeta, Bongaigaon, Dibrugarh, Nalbari, Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, Jorhat, Sonitpur, Kokrajhar, Karimganj, South Salmara, Barpeta, Darrang, Tinsukia.
According to the bulletin of the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), the toll in this year’s flood, landslides and storms was 64.
It said that Dhubri with a population of 7,75,721; Darrang-1,86,108; Cachar-1,75,231; Barpeta-1,39,399 and Morigaon-1.46.045 are among the districts it hits hardest.

612 camps have taken in shelter for 47,103 affected people while 4,18,614 inmates of non-relief camps have been provided relief materials.
Also some cities were flood such as Kamrup (Metropolitan), Kamrup and Dibrugarh.
Cabinet Ministers are also camping in various flood-hit districts.
When asked about his location at present Mr. Sarma replied “We are right on ground assessing what floods have done.”
“We are working day and night to identify people’s complaints and address their grievances,” he told reporters earlier.

Nimatighat Guwahati Goalpara and Dhubri all had the Brahmaputra river flowing above the danger mark.
The Burhi dihing at Chenimari, Dikhou at Sivasagar, Nanglamuraghat Disang, Dhansiri, Nt road crossing Jia bharali and Dharamtul Kopili at Kampur on Dharamtul are also above the danger mark.
AP Ghat, BP Ghat, Chota Bakra and Fuletral along the Barak river have it flowing above the danger mark with Gharmura its tributary; Disang at Nanglamuraghat, Katakhal at Matizuri and Kushiyara at Karimganj town.
The bulletin also mentioned that “among the damaged infrastructure are 225 roads and 10 bridges.”
