Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal is expected to call on Lieutenant-Governor (L-G) V.K. Saxena and hand over his resignation at 4:30 p. m. on Tuesday (September 17, 2024) which would facilitate the appointment of another Chief Minister of Delhi after him. As it is known, it was said that Kejriwal has resigned, but no AAP leader has mentioned who will be acting on behalf of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader for the rest of his government.
Before traveling for his meeting with S.K. Singh, on Tuesday (September 17, 2024), all AAP members of Legislative Assembly are informed to assemble at 11.30 am for concentric discussions to choose the next CM. Mr. Kejriwal and his former Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia hold talks on the former’s residence over more potential candidates to replace Delhi’s head of government after which the political affairs committee (PAC) of the party met to deliberation.
Mr. Kejriwal appears to be a busy man today (Tuesday), He has sought some time from the L-G in order to tender his resignation. He has got a date to meet him tomorrow. He would, however, call upon the Council today. There was a core group conducted by the CM, all senior of the cabinet attended the meeting. There are many leaders who were present in the PAC meeting where the senior AAP leader Saurabh Bharadwaj himself briefed every single leader present in the PAC about the new CM in the Delhi Assembly election.
The L-G has approved the appointment of Tuesday. Mr. Kejriwal last Sunday revealed he would submit his resignation from the position of Chief Minister in 48 hours from the moment of the announcement. He has however also called for a snap Assembly election to “give the people of Delhi an option to determine if the Aap government is an honest government”.
“Won’t occupy the CM post until people of Delhi express their views. I am going to step down those who are responsible for the administration in two days,” the chief minister of Delhi has declaimed. Mr. Sisodia also stated a short time afterwards that it was his intention to also be heard in the “people’s court” as well as in a legal court. “I will be the first person to go to the people’s court with Arvind Kejriwal. I will only sit on the chair after the people approve my honesty in election,” said Mr. Sisodia.
Then, after 6 months in prison, Mr. Kejriwal was granted bail by the Supreme Court while accused in the Delhi Alcohol Policy case under investigation by Central agencies. The same Mr. Sisodia had also spent over a year behind the bars in this case.
The BJP and the Congress’ Delhi unit opposition notwithstanding, the AAP had maintained that Mr. Arvind Kejriwal must be allowed to serve his term even if incarcerated. According to sources, the terms of bail imposed upon the Delhi Chief Minister, make it impossible for him to remain in office, thereby forcing him to relinquish his position.
