Assam’s Darrang and Dibang Valley, in Arunachal Pradesh, emerged among the top 30 performing districts implementing a joint action plan on “prevention of drugs and substance abuse among children and illicit trafficking.”
This plan has been prepared by the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) with support from Narcotics Control Bureau and it was released in February 2021.
Darrang Districts Commissioner Munindra Nath Ngatey received a certificate of appreciation from Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityananda Rai at New Delhi on June 30 while Additional Deputy Commissioner Jalley Umpo received it for Dibang Valley district.
The objective is to withdraw children from addiction as well as prevent selling drugs around schools, other educational institutions and crèches through mutually agreed coordinated actions within a stipulated time frame.
Plan implementation has been assigned to the district magistrate or collector.
