A year of filming has seen the director, Shashi Ranjan, wrap up the docu-series chronicling Roshan family’s journey in Bollywood. The series covers around four to five episodes and promises a mesmerizing analysis of how the Roshans have remained relevant in Indian cinema till now.
According to Mid-day report, he takes us back to 1948 when a young ambitious Roshan (the family patriarch) arrived in Bombay. Within a short period of time, his exceptional talent catapulted him to become one of the most successful music composers of his times. Afterwards it is passed on, with Rakesh Roshan’s son Rakesh becoming a force to be reckoned with both as an actor and director.
The documentary does not end at present though; much attention is given specifically on Hrithik Roshan who is presently considered as India’s super star whose grandfather was also renowned in the industry. We will witness as he rises within no time from being just another debutant into becoming the biggest superstar since Amitabh Bachchan after his first movie Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai (2000). The fascination doesn’t begin or stop with box office wins and losses but rather it goes deeper by exposing them into personal stuff such as struggles which they’ve had that has included cancer for Mr. Rakesh Roshan. These are some strong reasons why this show promises an all-round perspective on their journey.
In order to capture this multi-faceted story, Director Ranjan has extensively interacted with various individuals including those interviewed for this article. This also includes other members of their family and closest friends too. In addition, experts like Jeetendra and Rekha who acted alongside the family during their early years may give insight into what happened then while Shahrukh Khan as well as Priyanka Chopra might possibly talk about this too.
Equally important, the show recognizes the age-old relationship between Roshans and Kapoors, another prominent family in Bollywood. The show also goes into detail about filmmaking itself. Sham Kaushal, one of the main action directors in most of Rakesh Roshan’s films, is on the interviewee list. A lot will be told by him about how some of those iconic action scenes were created.
Roshan Lal Nagrath or better known as Roshan was born in Gujranwala which is now in Pakistan in 1917 and came to Bombay where he became a music composer for Hindi movies.
