A groundbreaking deal has been signed by AP Dhillon, the global Punjabi musical superstar (real name Amritpal Singh Dhillon), with Republic Records in conjunction with Universal Music Canada marking a historical moment for Punjabi music on the world stage. This marks the first-ever Indian-born singer-songwriter, rapper and record producer of Punjabi lineage to be signed to the prestigious label.
On the back of his future tie-up titled Old Money featuring Bollywood maestros Salman Khan and Sanjay Dutt, AP Dhillon’s global signing with Republic Records represents a significant advancement for both artist and label as well. With an ardent global fan base and a series of highly successful albums under his belt, Dhillon is poised to make unprecedented strides in leading a new era of Punjabi music with one of the world’s largest music companies behind him.
Republic Founder & Chairman Monte Lipman said this about the signing: “AP Dhillon is not only an incredible artist who continues to defy gravity in real time but also a clever visionary whose reach spans across continents and has already caused cultural shifts. We are excited to work together with Jeffrey Remedios – Chairman and C.E.O., Universal Music Canada – so that more people around the globe can understand AP’s influence with their lives.”
AP Dhillon can’t contain himself either: “You know what republic records always saw? They just understood me from day one. We’re all in harmony when it comes to this new music, and now I just can’t wait to show everybody what we’ve been cooking up.”
Kevin Buttar, long-time manager for this young musical prodigy explains further, “AP is next-gen talent that’s breaking borders beyond geography or culture through his music. It is significant for all brown people globally and huge stride forward for Punjabi music too. We’re excited about our partnership with Republic records as it means working alongside such diverse iconic catalogue.”
Dhillon’s first release on the label will be ‘Old Money’, a new single and video arriving on 9th August 2024, with a new album, The Brownprint, following two weeks later, on 23rd August 2024. On the record, Dhillon has co-produced most of The Brownprint along with other contributions from DŹŁ (Future, Central Cee), Luca Mauti (J.Cole, Eminem) and Aziz TheShake (BIA, Central Cee).
