On Wednesday night (23rd May 2024) an unknown person called on the telephone at the National Investigation Agency (NIA) office in Chennai and claimed that a prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi would be murdered during one of his campaigns.
The call came in at 9.30 pm on Wednesday by the NIA office staff at Purasaiwalkam, where over 40 officials are working. The caller spoke Hindi and threatened to kill PM who is touring in connection with elections taking place in India now. Thereafter, he cut off.
This caused immediate alert among senior officers. The Cyber Crime Wing of Greater Chennai City Police took up the case and analysed CDRs (Call Detail Records). The police found out that it was made from Madhya Pradesh, their efforts are underway to trace the caller and apprehend him said sources.
