Angry Young Men, a documentary that was released today on Amazon Prime Video August 20 tells viewers some amazing trivia. The film is based on the lives of Salim Khan and Javed Akhtar, popularly known as Salim-Javed and how they revolutionized the Indian cinema. An incomplete documentary on them without their separation would not be complete. Their break up which shocked both the industry and their fans in general. Their interviews were also included in it where other family members discuss about them and the relationship that existed among them.
Salim Khan’s son, Farhan Akhtar said “Most of my childhood memories revolve around spending time especially with Sohail and Alvira, Salman and Arbaaz were older than I was so as much as I wanted to hang out with them I don’t think they wanted to hangout with me (laughs). Like just you know being like a proper kid-kid; just running around doing stupid things like eating grass (laughs).”
According to Salman Khan, “It was like everyone was like family. You could go anywhere at any time.” Consequently, he taught Farhan and Zoya what cycling entailed.
His movie-maker sister Zoya Akhtar remembered that bicycle thingy once in her life: “I was just kind of struggling and I remember Salman was like ‘just go for it’. Nothing is going to happen. You’ll fall. Then you’ll get up and you’ll go again’. And it’s something that stays, you know.”
Farhan Akhtar gave his perspective about how things were after the split happened: “To some extent yes obviously cause you realize that something has changed but there has never been a point where I couldn’t go back there.”
An interesting aspect of the documentary was Salim Khan and Javed Akhtar revealing interesting facts about writing two of their iconic works Sholay and Deewaar among others. Notably both films were released in the same year.
