In a series of distressing and shocking testimonies, two British women came forward with accounts of rape and sexual violence allegedly perpetrated by controversial social media figure Andrew Tate. These memories surfaced at the time when both Andrew Tate and his brother, Tristan, were already faced with serious charges in Romania.
Andrew Tate had been arrested with charges of trafficking on order, creating an illegal organization that exploits women and rape while on house arrest in Romania. There were also emerging accusations that prosecutors were contemplating against him that included sexual activity with a juvenile and trafficking of underage females. It was indicated that both brothers had been investigating the trafficking of an additional 34 women.
Shocking allegations surface
In two of such incidents, two women who were not linked to the Romanian case against Tate siblings reported decades old instances of abuse by Andrew Tate that happened when he was based in Luton as reported by BBC.
Anna (not her actual name) had previously made a claim regarding her 2013 experience with Andrew Tate which was disturbing. She characterized how, following several meetings, Tate asked her to visit him at his house located in Luton. “He commenced to kiss me… and lifted his gaze at the roof and said, ‘I am just contemplating if I should rape you or not. There was a moment when he all of a sudden lifted me by my throat and slammed me against the backside of the bed, giving me a really tight choke hold.’” Anna explained.
With reference to the BBC, Anna said that then Andrew Tate went on to rape her and send her shocking messages afterwards taunting her about the attack. “Am I a bad person? Because the more you didn’t like it, the more I enjoyed it” – he claimed this in a voice note. Of a text which was sent out, it was stated “I enjoy having you raped.”
In 2014, she went to the police to make a statement about the assault, this was for Bedfordshire police. However, evidence to support the CPS submission was insufficient in 2019, and as result no charges were laid.
There is another woman who is referred to as Sienna, who also reported the traumatic incident with Tate. Sienna narrated that in one of their meetings in 2013 Tate grimly choked her by the neck while they were having intercourse. ‘I was absolutely terrified I don’t know why,’ she reported. ‘I just recall feeling like there was zero air… It was rape.’ The next morning Sienna had an apparent shiner that her friend also witnessed.
New allegations against Tristan Tate
In an extraordinary turn of events, a woman has come forward to accuse Tristan Tate of rape. Daisy (not her real name) claimed that in 2017 when she started going out with Tristan, she was unable to avoid working for the webcam business of the Tate brothers which is based in Bucharest.
She portrayed an oppressive atmosphere and claimed Tristan forced himself on her during intercourse after she had rejected him on several occasions. Daisy did not report the affair to the police but a friend persuades her that she was very upset when she came back to the UK.
Sociopolitical and legal consequences.
Legal battles for the Tate brothers did not stop in Romania and they were exposed to legal demands in the UK for extradition due to allegations of rape and human trafficking for the years 2012-2015. Besides, the police of Devon and Cornwall filed a civil action against them over millions of tax debts including unpaid taxes on their internet business.
Sienna and Anna went to the High Court in London alleging rape and sexual assault against Andrew Tate. Although Tate has maintained his innocence in all of the allegations, he chose not to address the most recent accusations. Separately, he was quoted last year by the BBC as saying, ‘I can’t wait to have the truth exposed to the whole world. I can’t wait to have it all over the BBC News that the person called Andrew Tate is not a criminal because it was not true since I have not in my life committed any crime’.
