Andhra Pradesh decided to grant a holiday to schools located in earthquake hit regions on Saturday (August 31, 2024). In most areas of the state heavy and continuous rains with gales were also experienced entertaining the need to close schools for the day. In many places of the state, heavy lashed horizontal rains were experienced with gusty winds which led the authorities to declare holiday for schools and colleges.
School Education Secretary Kona Sasidhar, however, said the district Collectors across the State were directed to make a decision based on the local weather situation. “We have asked Collectors to take a decision on the climate conditions prevailing in their districts and also to ask school managers to postpone internal examinations, if any, at the district level,” said Mr. Sasidhar, “On their part, Collectors in a number of districts have already given the order of school closure.”
