The blast that took place at the pharmaceutical company “Escientia” in Anakapalli, Andhra Pradesh happened when the workers in the factory tried to stop a leak from a solvent MTBE (Methy Tertiary Butyl Ether) on Wednesday (21 August 2024), says State Home Minister V. Anitha.
“There was a leakage of a solvent called MTBE (Methy Tertiary Butyl Ether) and the working people attempted to plug it up. The gas consequently formed going down until it reached its way through third floor to other lower floors of the building. It fell on an electrical panel before it was sealed and started burning causing an explosion,” said Ms. Anitha to reporters immediately after arriving at the accident site.
