Until May 13th, the Andhra Pradesh High Court has forbidden direct cash transfers to the target beneficiaries of various welfare schemes by the state government, led by the ruling YSR Congress party. on Monday.
This move came a day after Election Commission of India (ECI) on Thursday stopped the YS Jagan Mohan Reddy-led government from disbursing Rs 14,165 crore under Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) to beneficiaries of six specific government schemes saying ‘Overlaps with silent period’.
As per the pollster , pointing out that Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy led Government announced DBT aid just before MCC was implemented he opined that “disbursement of funds at this stage may affect the level playing field and it will benefit the ruling party.”
Earlier, opposition parties have been against further disbursements through cash transfer in welfare schemes as elections near and Model Code of Conduct comes into effect.
Typically within 24 hours to 48 hours at most, beneficiaries receive their funds under the DBT scheme.
