N. Chandrababu Naidu, at the moment serving as the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, has informed the media that the state authorities will be presenting to the Union, on or before Friday, September 6th, 2024, a preliminary report on losses sustained because of the floods and rains in the state. He added that a comprehensive report will be given later after an extensive survey of the extent of destruction is done.
However, when reporters approached Mr. Naidu on the evening of Thursday, the 12th of January, Mr. Naidu stated that the first report would be submitted at the Central Government by Friday evening. This would assist the inter ministerial team of the central Government which came to affected areas such as Vijayawada to carry out loss and destruction estimation. He said that the Andhra Pradesh government shall dispatch a detailed report with an outlining report that the Prime Minister threw in, “I have talked to union Minister of Finance Nirmala Sitaraman too.”
“Mr. Naidu stated that about 1,40,000 families have been completely wiped out and on an average almost 7 lakh people face mental trauma for a week. US company to investigate Budameru Drain Problems.
With regard to the Budameru drain, the Chief Minister said that the State Government has recruted Vassar Labs which is a US based organization to study the Budameru drain problem. Son Naidu pointed out that many aspects would be evaluated especially the existence of flood water in the catchment area, the inflow of floods to the city, the way to manage the flood waters etc., said.
Mr Naidu said that the defence works conducted by the Water Resources Department, WRD officials managed to plug two breaches in the drain. It will enable the flow of water to the Krishna River. There is one more breach which has to be sealed to ensure that flood waters do not spill over the city once more. He added that for now, there is 1.2 TMC of water in the city. The stagnant water especially in low lying areas must be got rid of. That means ordinarily, that these, in the conduces must be restoration of outlets to blow water out of.
