The Andaman Police carried out the drugs bust crackdown on the heroin trafficking syndicate and took away 2.075 kgs of drugs estimated to be worth Rs 14 crores in the international market, Thursday (September 12, 2024).
Commissionerate Police of South Andaman, Indian Police Service Niharika Bhat MS While addressing a media briefing informed that a reliable source informed the police about the existence of the drug heroin on August 24, 2024. Ms. “Based on the tip-off, the police acted and apprehended this person who was in possession of 1.295 kg of heroin and a report was locked up in the station. SP Niharika Bhat added.”
“Three other people were arrested and turned out to be accomplices to this crime. While interrogating this particular person from this band, names of three other persons came out. However, it was discovered that the heroin procured in Port Blair was transported through waterways,” Bhat continued.DeS
“In the course of the probe, it was learnt that 798 grams of heroin had been recovered from Kolkata. The rest of the heroin was brought to Kolkata but other people smuggled out the heroin and they were all investigated where through tracing 798 grams of heroin were located in Kolkata. A total of seven people have been nabbed in the case,” she stated.

She also informed the residents of Andaman that smuggling or even transporting or informing the police about any drug use is a punishable offence as well. ‘I would like to inform all the residents of Andaman, that even smuggling, or for that matter simply transporting, or even informing police about any drug use is a punishable offence,’ she stated.
