The compelling series ‘Call Me Bae’ has been able to capture the attention of its audience across the world with the light-hearted and lively stereotype it features, especially on its satire on class disparity and styling slavery in pop culture. But it’s not only the funny bits of the series that have worked, his central message or rather the core of the series – #BeHencode, the self, self-belief remained deeply embedded within the viewers, warming the tone of the light-hearted story.

The series’ colourful soundtrack is still making waves with four of the 10 album tracks – “Vekh Sohneeya”, “Churaaiyaan”, “Khwaish Poori” and “Yara Tere Bin” on the current trending songs on Instagram. The series made its premiere on the service after a catchy and high-impact advertising that could be described as its ‘soul’. The campaign began with headlined actress Ananya Panday, reassuringly Bae, her otherworldly bags at the Mumbai airport loomed in. Before the trailer arrived, there was a teaser from Prime Video that showed Karan Johar ‘launching’ Ananya in her long-form streaming début which was still yet to be viewed by people. Prior to the debut, the service held an exciting Bae-themed week at Mumbai’s highly crowded Central Western Express Highway (WEH) metro station and called it ‘Photos And’. Over the course of focusing on these digital, influencer marketing, and on-ground activations coupled with distribution partnerships with ONLY, Tresemme, and Amazon Fashion, the campaign transported Bae’s world to all and sundry. Call Me Bae quickly became a hot favorite turned out to be one of the title most discussed of the year, making ‘bae’ the character a cultural icon legendary.

Call Me Bae has received extraordinary acclaim from its viewers and it has been amazing to see, remarked Nikhil Madhok, head of originals, Prime Video India. Looking at the feedback, we have ordered to develop season 2 and move forward with the story of Bae and her tribe.”

“Right from the very onset, the idea behind Call Me Bae was to evoke an interesting blend of emotions and raising important topics, to relate to the audience,” carried on Madhok. “We are sure our commend position on this. Especially since we do appreciate how much the series has been embraced here in India and even abroad. How this combination of comedy, sarcasm and emotion has been received and touched us, we are thankful.”

“We are blazed with joy to tell you that we are developing the second season of Call Me Bae,” producer Karan Johar made it known. “The positive response from the audience towards the first season has been exhilarating and there is so much gratitude from each and every one of us. It has definitely been not easy though, being just a privileged spectator as the show transitioned from script to screen and eventually enjoy overwhelming and loud appreciation from audiences.”

It has been pure happiness to see the love that Ananya, Collin, Ishita, and the whole cast has gotten. This is one of the many productions that attest to the long-lasting relationship we have had with Prime Video and the desire to tell interesting and captivating stories. The possibilities seemed endless in a way because the audience now understands them better and we are optimistic that the second season is going to be more Bae-misaal than ever!”

We’re happy that we have made something which people from different age groups have appreciated.” said Apoorva Mehta. “I can assure you we are working even in this early stage of development to help our audience imagine what is going to happen in the season,” said Vidya Balan. “As you can imagine, I can’t wait to tell the audience why and how they have to follow Bae along with everyone else.”

“To see how people have accepted Bae and her gang from different nations is really wonderful, given the scale of Prime Video’s distribution. Witnessing this notion taking its form, through actual production till the very end, has certainly been very satisfying. To the cast and crew, I wish to thank Ishita, Collin, Ananya and the rest ‘Call Me Bae’ Stars for being the heart of the show and I am so glad we have jumped back into the action for season 2.”
