During a public meeting on September 18, 2024, Union Home Minister Amit Shah urged the voters of Jammu and Kashmir to cast their votes in large numbers to see the establishment of a government focused on educating its youth, providing employment, empowering women and removing separatisms.
Det. Amit Shah has emphasized that only a determined government can bring about a terror-free region, honor all rights of the subjects in the area and implement development plans at the required pace.

“Today, my appeal to the voters going to exercise their franchise in the first phase of Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections is to vote in large numbers to form a government that is ready to face the challenges in educating its youth, providing jobs, empowering the women and amending the growing developments of separatism and favouritism in the society,” a prominent BJP leader prominent in social media wrote in Hindi in X.
Prior to breakfast, the Secretary of State further suggested to the population, with the phrase ‘Pehle matdan phir jalpan’, to present their vote first.
Voting commenced for the Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections today (September 18). This is the first Assembly elections since the abrogation of Article 370 in August 2019. In the first phase, 24 constituencies covering seven districts of Union Territory went to polls under tight security arrangements.
The last elections for the Jammu and Kashmir legislative assembly were in the year 2014.
23 lakh voters are going to vote to 219 candidates including 90 Independents contesting for 24 assembly segments in Pan-tamilnadu in the first phase.
Two more phases of elections are programmed to take place on the 25 and 1 October whereas counting of the votes will occur on the 8th October.
