The Indian Union Home Minister, Mr. Amit Shah on May 31 assessed the situation of heavy rains and floods in the north east states and gave them assurances for all possible assistance.
These are his remarks; “I have also apprised PM Narendra Modi ji about situation in Assam, Tripura, Manipur, Meghalaya & Mizoram and he too expressed solidarity with affected people.”
In a post on Twitter now called X, Mr. Shah noted: “Deeply concerned about the natural disasters triggered by Cyclone Remal in Assam, Tripura, Manipur, Meghalaya and Mizoram. Also briefed PM Shri @narendramodi ji on the situation who expressed solidarity with those affected.”
Besides that the Home Minister spoke to Chief Ministers of these five states and assured them of all possible help.
“Our thoughts are with those who have lost their loved ones and prayers with those injured for a speedy recovery. The situation is being closely monitored and authorities are providing all possible assistance to the affected,” he said.
According to officials, following incessant rain following Cyclone Remal that led to over lakhs of persons being affected by flood waters in several places in Northeast India.
“Since May 28 at least six people were killed in floods,rains and storms reported from Assam”, they confirmed.
The Haflong -Silchar Road has been completely cut off after a stretch was washed away near Harangajao while the Haflong-Harangajao route has been blocked by multiple landslides.
Officials stated that train services were either cancelled or short-terminated due to landslides along Haflong-Badarpur railway line yet to be restored .
As per Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), ahead of its normal schedule due to effect of cyclone ‘Remal’ southwest monsoon entered into Assam including other parts of NER .
