The Amarnath yatra was interrupted on both routes to the cave shrine on July 6 as a precautionary measure due to heavy rainfall, officials said.
Since last night, intermittent heavy rain has occurred along Baltal and Pahalgam routes.
The decision to suspend the Yatra temporarily was taken as a precautionary measure by the officials in order to ensure pilgrims’ safety.
The number of people who visited the holy place at 3,800m above sea level and watched around that natural ice lingam is over 1.50 lakh.
On June 29, the Amarnath Yatra started from two tracks: 48-km-long traditional Nunwan-Pahalgam way in Anantnag district and 14 km shorter but steeper Baltal route through Ganderbal and will end up on August 19. More than four lakh and five thousand believers had gone for darshan at this temple last year.
