Algeria has submitted a draft resolution to the United Nations Security Council, calling for an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and the release of all hostages held by Hamas. The resolution also demands that Israel ‘immediately halt its military offensive’ in Rafah, referring to a recent International Court of Justice ruling which demanded that Israel refrains from engaging in military operations within this region.
This follows an attack on Sunday that killed at least 45 people in a designated humanitarian zone in Rafah, southern Gaza. According to Israel, they had aimed at Hamas militants and did not intend any harm coming to civilians.
It is possible that the security council will vote on this resolution within days but at least nine members must say yes and none of five permanent countries (US, UK, France, Russian Federation and China) should make use of right of veto during voting for this decision passage.
Israel has been shielded by the US through vetoing three draft council resolutions on war in Gaza before; however it abstained three times as well including last time when the council last March called for an immediate cessation between Israel and Hamas.
On October 7th ,Hamas militants attacked Israel whereby over 1 200 people died while more than 250 hostages were captured according to Israeli tallies
There are reportedly still about 130 hostages being held captive in Gaza. More than 36,000 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli attacks on Gaza since my sources confirm it began its campaign aimed to destroy Hamas’ last major intact unit formations comprising one thousand fighters and rescue those who were kidnapped through Rafah.
