A Scandinavian Airlines flight operating from Oslo to Málaga was diverted to Copenhagen as a precaution after a passenger discovered a live mouse in his food on Wednesday.
Since mice are verified safety risks on long flights for the risk of biting electrical wires, according the report of The Guardian, the pilot brought the airplane down to Copenhagen. Later people were put on another plane which was flying to Málaga.
‘Believe what you want but a lady next to me opened her food pad and a rat jumped out,’ a passenger identified as Jarle Borrestad posted on Facebook.
According to the comment Australian news agency AAP caught an airline spokesperson Oystein Schmidt saying the diversion was in accordance with company rules as the furry stowaway constituted a safety threat.
As for Borrestad’s, passengers were quite composed, saying they “were not stressed at all”. But he admitted that he tried to wear his socks over his trousers in case the mouse would crawl up his legs.
The diversion did not lead to more than usual and caused only a small minor delay just a few hours to the trip, Borrestad stated.
Scandinavian Airlines also confirmed the rarity of such incidents while assuring that there are procedures in place to deal with them. One of the representatives of the airline company, who provided a comment to the New York Post, stated: “We have put in place procedures for such situations, including an investigation with the suppliers to prevent a re-occurrence.”
