Edappadi K Palaniswami, the General secretary of AIADMK was supported on his attempt to reestablish control of AIADMK under his leadership after 2026 Assembly elections, by the party executive.
The meeting lasted over one hour at the party headquarters in Royapettah and ended with a resolution to that effect. It was proposed by former Minister and party’s face in Coimbatore district, S.P. Velumani among other senior leaders who had met Mr. Palaniswami about one month back at Salem to discuss bringing all those who were followers and supporters of M.G.Ramachandran and Jayalalitha back into the fold.
Another resolution reiterated party’s position on “mega alliance” formation and “new political strategy” for defeating DMK in 2026 State Assembly election.
This was the first Executive meeting of the party since its dismal performance in 2024 Lok Sabha polls. Nonetheless, one of them did appreciate voters for choosing their party and associate in another motion.
A total of nine resolutions were adopted at this meeting, attended by a number of seniors and veterans. Despite increasing calls for unification of all factions loyal to MGR/Jayalalithaa, none such issues were addressed anywhere in its resolutions
There have been calls from within that there should be right conditions set “for reunioning“ or rather reunifying O.Panneerselvam former interim general secretary V.K. Sasikala and Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (AMMK) founder T.T.V. Dhinakaran with AIADMK.
The government under DMK has also been attacked by this political group on various matters such as: non-supply through PDS poshops; sloppiness. During free saree/dhoti/uniforms scheme implementation for school children; lawlessness including state rights violation against livelihood issues. And “political vendetta” against previous AIADMK regime programs.
The party wanted DMK to revert back to monthly billing cycle for electricity consumption. And blamed it for ignoring the causes of “dwindling industrial investments.” Opposition party in Assembly has labelled DMK’s three-year-rule as a “government of agony” not a “government of achievements.”
AIADMK also slammed Union government for “not sanctioning the required” projects and “not making adequate financial allocation” for the State. Additionally, the national disaster declaration should be extended to Wayanad landslides in Kerala. While demanding removal of 18% GST on insurance policy schemes.
