The AIADMK general secretary, Edappadi K. Palaniswami demanded a drought relief amounting to ₹30, 000 per acre for the Cauvery delta farmers who couldn’t take up kuruvai cultivation due to shortage of water on June 28th, 2024. Due to low rainfall, kuruvai crop was not cultivated in many parts of the delta districts.
He added that in case of crop failure or losses, farmers should benefit from a crop insurance scheme and unemployed agricultural workers should receive a monthly payment of ₹5, 000 per ration card. Also, free distribution of forage and other feed among farmers would cater to the needs of cattle as stated by him.
AIADMK general secretary T.T.V. Dhinakaran took to his social media handle to criticise the DMK government over its stance on old pension scheme and asked why it was not being implemented despite making such assurance during electioneering. He also urged that Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand and Himachal Pradesh examples be followed since these states have restored the old pension scheme; he therefore called upon the government not to waste any more time in implementing it.
