The Nilgiris district SP has been requested by the Indian Thowheed Jamaath to take appropriate action against a police inspector who allegedly assaulted a man, causing him serious injuries. It is alleged that the police arrested the man who derives his income from offering horse rides to tourists near Ooty Lake after a tourist fell off horseback.
Mrs Jabeena F., from Khandal’s Kumarasamy Street, said that on May 12th her husband Mr. Farooq was working around the Ooty Boat House when one of the tourists who had mounted one of his horses accidentally fell and sustained minor injuries. “Immediately, my husband took him to a private clinic and footed all expenses for treating those minor injuries,” she added.
Thereafter it has been alleged that Meena Priya, inspector of G1 Police Station in Udhagamandalam with another policeman named Velu visited Boat House and picked up Farooq for questioning him. They are then claimed to have beaten him at the station with instructions never again to ride horses carrying tourists.
Photographs showed by Jabeena indicate bruises on Farooq’s gluteus muscles. “He could not go to relieve himself since the wounds were paining him even while he was taken straightway to hospital,” confirmed Mrs. Jabeena.
Furthermore, one of these policemen going by name Velu, demanded ₹5k out of Inspector as bribe so that no case will be lodged against Farooq by her. Mrs Jabeena urged for measures against this cop together with others involved in attacking her spouse.
Despite several attempts, Superintendent of Nilgiris District Police Sundaravadivel P could not be reached over an alleged instance of police attack.
