Sources cited by the local news media stated that a shooting spree which took place in Minneapolis led to the deaths of three people, including a police officer. The suspected shooter is also said to be dead.
On one social media platform, the Minneapolis Police Department confirmed on its account “responding to an active incident” wherein six individuals were “reported injured”, among them two of whom were officers.
“This continues to be a fluid situation,” the police department said. Stressing the evolving nature of the situation, they advised residents to avoid Whittier neighborhood area where this occurred.
There have been no further official details available at least as of around 6:15 pm central time when initial reports were made.
Reuben Molina, who lives nearby, explained what he saw and heard: “Me and my girlfriend, we heard really loud banging at first. Then we heard it again and again and again in rapid succession. And me and her were like, ‘Oh that’s gunshots.’”
“The State Patrol is on the scene in South Minneapolis assisting local law enforcement. The State of Minnesota stands ready to provide any resources necessary. Praying for all the first responders on the ground working to keep the community safe,” Gov. Tim Walz said in a tweet.
According to CBS News citing St. Paul Mayor Melvin Carter, St. Paul policemen will be involved in patrolling Minneapolis during today’s night shift.
