An analysis of election data compiled by the Association for Democratic Reforms shows that there are eleven candidates over eighty years old and five hundred thirty-seven in the age bracket of twenty-five to thirty who are contesting Lok Sabha elections.
The analysis covered data on eight thousand three hundred thirty seven out of eight thousand three hundred sixty candidates participating in the contest.
As per this analysis, a total of 505 candidates within an age group of 25-40 contested first phase elections.
849 were aged between 41 and 60, 260 between 61 and 80 while four were above the age of eighty.
363 candidates aged between 25-40 were involved in second phase followed by those between ages 41-60 (578), then ages of between sixty-one to eighty (249) with only two being over eighty years old.
In the third phase, there were four hundred eleven contestants whose age varied from twenty-five to forty; additionally seven hundred twelve contested who stood at ages ranging from forty-one to sixty.
This category had two hundred and twenty-eight individuals aged between sixty-one to eighty and one person aged eight-four.
For the fourth round, six-hundred-forty-two people within twenty-five to forty age bracket took part; also eight-hundred-and-forty-two others ranged from forty-one to sixty and only two-hundred and twenty-six fell into a range of going through their sixties for this time period
In this case fifth-phase contenders consisted; they include just two hundred seven persons falling in ages between twenty-five to forty years; however these numbers increased as four more persons came under the group consisting three-hundred-eighty-four people aged forty-one-sixty years so that those who would fall into categories below these could be just one-hundred-three beings.
One person was eighty-two years old.
In the sixth phase, which will be held on May 25, there are 271 candidates aged between 25 and 40 while 436 are in the 41-60 age range.
There are one hundred fifty-nine candidates who fall in the sixty-one to eighty-year-old bracket.
At the end of June, all three candidates will have turned eighty-one.
According to analysis, five hundred thirty-seven, aged between twenty-five and thirty contesting for the election and eleven more than eighty years old are also vying for position.
The elections are being conducted in seven phases from April 19 to June 1. The votes will be counted on June 4.
The first five phases of these elections have already been completed. The other two rounds are scheduled on May twenty-fiveth and June first respectively.
