Lionsgate and 87Eleven Entertainment, the makers of John Wick films, will collaborate on a remake of Indian action movie Kill in English.
Original Kill Hits Theaters This Week
Directed by Nikhil Nagesh Bhat, the Hindi-language original is expected to be released in US cinemas on July 4th. Already exhibited at Toronto International Film Festival (Midnight Madness) and Tribeca Film Festival, the film follows two young lovers who are separated by an arranged marriage. Amrit has been trying to win back Tulika since their separation and eventually decides to attempt a dangerous rescue mission together with his friend Viresh.
High Praise for the Original Film
Chad Stahelski (producer for 87Eleven Entertainment) was impressed by this “one of the most vivid, wild, and creative action movies I’ve seen recently.” He commended director Nikhil Nagesh Bhat’s “constant chases” and expressed enthusiasm about introducing another version of this narrative through an English language adaptation.
A Collaboration Between Renowned Studios
The remake will involve the original production companies which are Dharma Productions and Sikhya Entertainment as well as 87eleven Entertainment. For both Dharma Productions which is globally represented under Karan Johar’s leadership and Sikhya Entertainment that produced India’s first Oscar winner (The Elephant Whisperers), it looks like an interesting project.
Through a combined statement from them, they said “we are ecstatic that 87Eleven Entertainment will be producing an English language re-make of our film”. The producers believe that this move marks a “great victory for Indian cinema” as well as reflecting its universal quality.
Casting details or release dates for the remake have not yet been revealed.
