In Vallivedu, a village near Walajah town, on the Chennai – Bengaluru Highway (NH 44) on Wednesday, June 26, 2024, a container lorry being driven by a 43-year-old man caught fire but he managed to escape unhurt.
The police sources noted that L. Sonu Yadhav from Nashik working as a driver and cleaner K. Manish (26) were transporting eight luxury cars from Nashik town in Maharashtra to Chennai on the same road. The vehicle was parked along the service lane near a petrol pump to stay overnight on Tuesday.
On Wednesday at around 9 o’clock in the morning Mr. Yadhav attempted starting his lorry only for him to realize that smoke was coming out from under its bonnet. Subsequently, both of them quickly alighted from it.
A police alert facilitated their evacuation and presence of firemen led by Station Fire Officer (Ranipet), P. Thirumurugan at that place; when they eventually arrived there an hour later. However, before these flames could be extinguished by fire-fighters who reached there just moments later than anticipated. The front section of this vehicle had been consumed by huge flames thereby leaving it completely gutted although they were able to save it from spreading into the high-end cars which are inside the container.
Accordingly, we can say that an electric short-circuit may have caused this accident whereupon Walajah police registered a case.
