People’s House Opposition Leader Rahul Gandhi on Monday attacked the speaker of the house, Om Birla’s, about bowing before Prime Minister Narendra Modi with regards to Birla and accused him of “bowing” before Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
“You shouldn’t be guided by personal aspirations when you hold a constitutional office,” Gandhi said.
He told Om Birla, “The Lok Sabha is your court; its verdict is final. The words you say define what India stands for as a nation.”
Call Om Birla Victory Day Lok Sabha speaker He said, “Mr. Speaker, there are actually two people sitting on the chair – the Speaker of Lok Sabha and Mr. Om Birla. When I shook hands with you, you stood up straight but when Prime Minister Modi Taking your hand, you bowed and shook his hand.
This remark sparked off an uproar in the House as Home Minister Amit Shah got up to describe it as an “insult to chairman.”
Speaker Om Birla’s asking members of Parliament to take their seats replied: “In my tradition and culture we bow down to elders in private or public places. I abide by these norms.”
When this happened amid uproar Ghandi reminded Om Birla’s about his position. “I will accept it respectfully but let me remind you that there is no other Big person than a Speaker in this house.”
According to Ghandi he should not bow before anyone in the House except him while speaking to Birla.
